What is a good browser for a lab situation (1 lab is all PPCs, the other is '040 Macs, all with System 7.5.x)? 2. I'd like to be able to disable email, chat and printing from the browser, is this possible? I've locked Navigator's prefs file, so changes to the email option aren't saved, but I'd like to "gray" it out altogether. We use either Telnet (Pine) or POPmail/Lab for email. And some of our students spend altogether too much time "chatting." 3. What is the most stable setup for Performa 636 ('040, system 7.5.5, 20MB RAM) for Internet use? We are currently using NN3. Thanks to all of the responses I got to my question about fixing up a friend's Powerbook 5300ce. The consensus seemed to be that 64Mb or RAM is a good thing if trying to use Office 98. I will recommend doing that. Modems got a mixed response. Some loved Global Village and some didn't. My friend ended up getting a GV PC Card v.90 modem. Installed great but when I tried to flash the PROM, it fried. GV Tech Support said that it was nothing I did -- he gets several calls a day like mine. Also told me that I really didn't need to flash the PROM. The prior firmware version was actually probably better. I'm still trying to figure that one out! I have a couple of more questions: 1.) How difficult is it to add memory to a 5300ce. I am fairly technically inclined but I've never been inside a Powerbook. Are instructions available anywhere or am I better off leaving this to an Apple Authorized Service Center? 2.) The screen (lid) is very difficult to open and close. So much so that the LCD display has separated from the bezel at the bottom. (It appears that it was originally attached with some sort of double-sided foam tape.) Can I repair this and can I loosen up the hinge so it opens easier? Or am I better off taking it to someone else? Thanks again for the responses. Not all of us can afford 21" monitors to spread out our windows, and Virtual Desktop still is buggy with MacOS 8.5.1. Microsoft's operating system has supported this feature since Windows 3.1, it is time we made a shareware or freeware that did the same on the Mac. I maintain three web sites, and having to rearrange Anarchie's Windows everytime is a pain (or pane if you like puns). This especially is a problem since the resize window tab is only at one corner of the window, and not at the four midpoints of the sides. Sure there is the resize indentation on the upper right hand corner, but that only resizes to the last two sizes used. When the bottom right hand corner is hidden, then it is a real pain to get windows to show up at the size you want them to. The mail messages (and your address books) are stored in the Preferences folder inside the System folder (under Netscape Users, etc or whatever you named your user profile). If NN does not know where to look or cannot find any local mail folder, it will create a new one. So, you can replace the appropriate folders that NN 4.5 created with the old ones. You can also set the location of your local mail folder in the preferences of Netscape. Open up the 'Preferences' from the 'Edit' menu, go to 'Mail & Newsgroups' and then 'Mail servers'; under 'Mail servers' at the bottom click on the 'Choose' button under 'Local mail folder' to select where you want your local mail folder. I am baffled by the filing/folder system in Netscape
Communicator/Messenger for 4.5.

I purchased a G3 recently(heavenly!) and I wanted to transfer my old
stored messages from the old computer to the new one.  But I can't seem
to do this.  When I copy my Communicator folder onto a Zip and open it
up in the new computer, the message files are gone.   It starts with a
blank slate.

I've searched everywhere in my HD for the Messenger files, but they are
not visible.

This must be a problem for lots of people.  How do I get the old
Messenger folders on to a different computer?

Thanks

In England, the old monitor is about =A3895 while I've been quoted =A3450 - = 500 for the 'new' monitor which seems to have EXACTLY the same spec. (Of course, no-one at Apple UK could be reached to answer the question) --============_-1292051195==_ma============ Content-Type: text/enriched; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Question: What's the difference between the old (dark blue / purple) Apple 15" TFT (LCD) Studio Display and the new (white and Imac greeny blue) Apple 15" TFT (LCD) Studio Display. I have a PPC Macintosh; 550/225; 8GB HD; running OS8.5.1. Recently I removed the internal 2.1GB HD in favour of the 8GB now installed, and prior to that I had no problems with my Iomega Zip drive. However, since the swap over I am unable to start up the Mac -a blank screen only- with the Zip drive attached. If I disconnect the Zip everything is fine! The change of HD is the only thing that took place. I have checked the cables, connections, ID # and termination but still cannot solve the problem. Any ideas what the solution may be? -------------------------------- --Info-Mac-Digest-- End of Info-Mac Digest ******************************
