Disk Charmer is a neat utility that lets you conveniently erase and copy disks, and handle disk images in DiskCopy and DiskDup+ format. If you have Mac OS 8.1, you can now use the Mac OS Extended format (a.k.a. HFS Plus) and even set the minimum allocation block size. Disk Charmer lets you create larger disks: you gain 9K on 800K disks, 19K on HD disks, 1.5MB on Zips. At least System 7 is required. Help Balloons are everywhere. Disk Charmer has a nice, modeless interface. It fully supports drag&drop. It supports the handy "Undo" feature we all know and love. New since version 3.0.9: * Supports the Mac OS Extended format, a.k.a. HFS Plus; it even allows to set the minimum allocation block size. * Supports disks larger than 4 Gigabytes. * Fixed a bug that would have sometimes caused a crash (instead of an appropriate error message) when you tried to work with weird disks (such as networked disks) or in other situations. * Other tweaks and fixes. -- Fabrizio Oddone Lake Forest, California United States of America mailto:fab@kagi.com http://www.kagi.com/authors/fab/ [Archived as /info-mac/disk/disk-charmer-31.hqx; 151K] ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Feb 1998 13:35:09 -0700 From: ace@tidbits.com Subject: [*] Easy View 2.6 source code A number of people have asked about the status of Easy View, Akif Eyler's popular text viewing utility. You can even specify where it has to look in the file: the data fork, the resource fork or both. If you play games over the internet then you know what a hassle it can be when you are going to host a game and need to give your IP address to your fellow players. MyIPAddress looks up your current IP address and then copies it to your clipboard. To use it all you have to do is place the utility into your "Apple Menu Items" folder. Then when someone asks you for your IP address all you have to do is select MyIPAddress from the Apple Menu. MyIPAddress will instantly look up the address and copy it to the clipboard. SmartKeys does this in four ways. First, SmartKeys automatically corrects typing that violates conventional typesetting rules, such as typing more than one consecutive space. Second, SmartKeys automatically corrects fast typing errors, words that are often misspelled, such as "teh" for "the" and "THe" for "The". Third, it can require modifiers to engage the Caps Lock and the Help key, making them more difficult to press inadvertently. Finally, in the event of a system crash, SmartKeys can keep a log of what was typed. SmartKeys 3.2.1 supersedes version 3.2 and all earlier versions of SmartKeys. SmartKeys 3.2.1 fixes the option to require modifiers to engage the Caps Lock key, which didn't work at all, and a few minor bugs. Try out SmartKeys for thirty days for free. SmartKeys is not crippled in any way and requires no serial number to run, but it does post a periodic registration reminder. However, if you like it, please pay the shareware fee of $15 (US).
