So from time to time I would like to work under MacOS 8.1 (I have iMac 233 MHz) A while ago (before MacOS 9) I used the system picker which was working fine. Now with OS 9 I'm out of luck. Can somebody give me an advice on this matter? (I do need OS 9 for most of my work so downgrading system software is not an option). The answer to the question you ask is "You're getting PostScript errors because the PostScript code which the printer is receiving is broken in some way." A more specific solution depends entirely what specific PostScript errors you're getting, and the circumstances under which they occur. Some questions that will help narrow it down: 1. Do other applications fail in the same way? If this is true, then the problem is most likely in the printer driver or System software, since more than one app is affected. If this is not true, then the problem would appear to be is Word-specific. 2. Do all documents from Word fail, or just a subset? If the latter, is there a common feature among the documents that fail, like a font or a particular image file? 3. If you boot with minimal extensions [use Extensions Manager to choose the "Mac OS 9 All" set], does the problem occur? 4. Have you tried reinstallation of either Word or the OS? Have either had any affect? I hope this helps narrow it down a bit. chazl -- It's nice to be liked, but it's better by far to get paid. - Liz Phair, Shitloads of Money Chaz Larson - chaz at spamcop dot net - http://www.visi.com/~chaz ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Apr 2000 10:48:12 -0400 From: Laurence Hawkins Subject: PowerMac 6500/225 Having done such a fine job of solving my "Shutdown Problem", who has ideas on the following? I'm using a PowerMac 6500/225, OS 7.6.1, external modem, 64 MB RAM and a Umax Scanner. Some months ago, due to problems with incorrect time & dates, I replaced my PRAM battery, rather prematurely. All seemed to be cured, but then the problem resurfaced and I found that my practice of disconnecting the Mac from the power source every night seemed to be the cause. I therefore revamped my power leads, to ensure that the Mac was always plugged in, even though I isolated power from all other peripherals, after shutting down the Mac from the keyboard. This solved the problem, except when power failures occurred. Then it was again necessary to reset time & date on restarting. I feel this is not normal, and would like confirmation of this. The HD is a 'wide' one though I have it in a box that will attach to the scsi port (there is a wide pin connection out of the box and the cable that attaches to it ends in a narrower one that fits the scsi port of my machine). I think I am not getting the best use of the HD. How do I get to use it at its best performance? Can I put it in the machine as an internal HD? If I have to buy peripherals to achieve what I am asking about where can I buy them from (I live in the UK)? I posted this message into the messageboard of the PowerWatch site but got no replies to date. Is my question expressed in a confused manner?
