Remote Only is a setting for AppleTalk that is not mapped to any ports. It is convenient when you have things that _require_ AppleTalk to be turned on, but when you actually aren't trying to communicate with anything via AppleTalk (such as using NetPresenz as a TCP/IP server). This sounds like what you were using the IR port for...kind of as a placeholder for AppleTalk, allowing it to remain on while not interfering with anything. Hope this helps, Mike -- Michael G. Anyone have any ideas? MySQL is a unix program, & if you wish to run it on your Mac, you could do so using NetBSD or Linux on your PowerMac. I personally prefer NetBSD, as it is a standard BSD unix, versus Linux being a hodgepodge of various AT&Tisms and BSDisms (the two camps of unix), and being controlled by one guy in Finland. It is unclear, however, whether you are really interested in an sql client or an sql server. Since you're a student, you've got access to SQL servers on the university & could access them using sql queries with a client. Hope this helps, Mike -- Michael G. I know my Powerbook will decode DVD audio into Dolby 2.0. Sad but true. I don't know about the G4s. I remembered that there is a product called Wired4DVD which is a PCI card with Dolby Digital 5.1. Sorry, no DTS. Unfortunately it requires a PCI slot which the Cube doesn't have. I'm kind of hoping for a USB or Firewire device that can be used to hook up to my receiver. I'm not sure but I believe it's in the software DVD player itself because the PowerBook will take Dolby 5.1 and convert it into Dolby 2.0 automatically. on 2/7/01 7:32 AM, The Info-Mac Network at digest@info-mac.org wrote: > From: Jonathan Bauer > Date: Tue, 06 Feb 2001 07:09:57 -0500 > To: INFO_MAC > Subject: G4 DVD & dts, Dolby digital > > I read in the DVD FAQ, , that not all > DVD players are capable of reading dts surround and Dolby digital (AC3) 5.1 > formats. > > I have a Cube (G4/500) with the audio output to my stereo (via a Roland USB > interface using the optical digital output of the interface). In the meantime I found a TIL on the DVD player which states that it will not support dts. Says nothing about Doblby Digital 5.1. I had some hope because the output from the Cube is entirely digital. I will try and call Apple support on the telephone, and try and post on the Apple G4 discussion board (at Apple) although I suspect that the only way to actually find out is to get my hands on a decoder and see what is there.
