Now that several times I forgot to plug in the computer, and heard the computer's fan go on and off finally realizing it was unplugged, I realized this could be a problem. Anybody know what extension makes the battery icon visible in the menubar? I don't want to mess my extension set too much as any clean install I've done, I've found I've had to go back to the old extension set to get my Lexmark Z52 to work over my MacAlly USB card. I used a utility program to keep its files synchronized with my Desktop Mac. Can't remember the name of the product. I am getting a new G3 Powerbook. What product or method do people use these days to synchronize files between a desktop Mac and a powerbook? Does Retrospect have a feature that allow you to do this sort of thing? Is there a feature built into the Mac OS that supports it? Nick Pappas ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2001 08:54:37 -0500 From: "Randy A. Noranbrock" To: Subject: iBot users? Driver gobbles memory? I have an iBot from Orange Micro and both a PowerMac G4 and PowerBook G3 (FireWire) having OS 9.1 and 9.0.4, respectively. I am using the FW iBot Camera Extension 1.0.1 on both and have noticed that whenever I take a picture (capture a single image) using the iBot and pretty much any video capture software (adobe premiere, btv view, oculus) the video software loses ~128k in free memory (as judged by looking at the About this Computer listing or using Memory Mapper). Also, the video software loses ~20k of free memory whenever I access the video settings for the iBot. Needless to say, this is a problem, unless you want to bump up the memory allocation quite a bit. Has anyone else noticed this problem? Anybody come across this or got any ideas - apart from upgrading >to a newer version of Word that is.... In all seriousness, Don, I would be looking at a new WP. I run G3, OS9.1, and have Weird 5.1a on board for translation purposes with MS's 97-2000 freebie translator, but I have received reports from some others that daily use of this version throws up faults too. In addition, the installer won't work any longer. My favourite WP is NisusWriter, the latest version (v.6) of which you can get on a 30 day trial at or you can pick up the freebie older version 4.1.6 (I used it until recently) for daily commercial work. There are very lively user lists at and SIGNON NISUS YOUR NAME in the body and Nisus Hub at . Another choice would be AppleWorks -- not nearly as sophisticated as a WP, but the GREATEST mail merge machine in existence and a super integrated program. Both are very economical. Needless to say I have no connection with either company except as a very happy user.
