By means of it you may: -view all resources into files; -view resources contents; -know resources attributes; -gather resources infos; -copy a single resource or a whole type into a new or already existing files; -modify original or final resource attributes; -remove a single resource or a whole type; -check the Res Fork integrity. 37thResEx can also convert resources of type 'snd ', 'TEXT', 'PICT', and icon families into double-clickable files: converted Icon families show own icon on the desktop, converted 'snd ' resources are sound files, converted 'TEXT' resources are styled text files, converted 'PICT' resources are pict files. Last, but not least: by using hot key opening files, you achieve the Conversion dialogs, skipping the files-related windows creation. Moreover, if you launch 37thResEx by using this feature, after completing its job it quits automatically. 37thResEx is Macintosh Drag and Drop, Internet Config and Balloon Help aware. It requires at least System 7 to run. Like the first 3 volumes, these are "graceful textures." That means they are easy on the eyes. A lot of the Internet textures I've seen are quite busy and it wears out your eyes and makes Icons difficult to see. Not so with these. HOW TO MAKE IT WORK Like collections the first 3 volumes, these all require the shareware program TEXTURE INSTALLER 2.1 to work. You can download it from most of the big sites like Info-mac and such. It is in a suite of programs called DESKTOP TEXTURES SUITE. A sample URL to try is: http://hyperarchive.lcs.mit.edu/HyperArchive/gui/desktop-textures-suite-21.hqx For those of you without it, I recommend it highly as it provides the functionality of Apple's DESKTOP PATTERNS (7.5 and higher) but also compresses textures and allows for 24 bit and even 32 bit textures (does Apple's do this?). For those of you with system 7.1 (which I still have... it's fast), it's one of the only ways to get 128 X 128 pixel pattern on your desktop. COST: A measley $5 dollars. Send me some money and I'll make more for you... Deskpop is a Control Strip module which lists all volumes, folders and files currently on the Mac's desktop. This is especially useful for the (hopefully short) time the desktop is cluttered. Folders are displayed with the underline style. Volumes (a.k.a. Disks) are displayed with the bold bold+underline style. The Trash is displayed with the bold style. This reduces power consumption and quiets a Mac when it is not in use. Sleeper can also password-protect the screen and shut down a Mac if it has been idle for too long. Separate sleep times can be set for all features, and a hotkey can be used to put the Macintosh to sleep on demand. Unlike Apple's Energy Saver control panel, Sleeper does not require that a Macintosh have built-in power management capabilities, so Sleeper will support any model from the MacPlus to the latest PowerMacs. By not relying on Apple's Power Manager, Sleeper can also provide more options and more precise control, and does not suffer from the unreliability some users experience with Apple's Energy Saver control panel. Sleeper requires only 40K of RAM to provide all its capabilities. These features include: - PowerMac native sleep for IDE disk drives - PowerMac native SCSI disk sleep - Support for multiple SCSI buses - Full SCSI Manager 4.3 compliance - Energy Star support - Password screen locking - A very frugal screen saver - An intuitive user interface Sleeper will operate on any Macintosh running System 7 or higher, including Mac OS 8, and is accelerated for PowerPC. In addition to the standard internet archives, information and updates are available at: Sleeper may be included on the UMich and Info-Mac CD-ROMs. What's New ---------- Sleeper 3.0.1 is a maintenance release, providing bug and compatibility fixes as well as one new feature. A partial list of improvements includes: - An option to mute the speaker while the Mac is asleep. - The ability to put the internal hard disk to sleep on the PowerMac 4400, Starmax 5000, and other machines based on the Tanzania II motherboard. - A fix for ATI XCLAIM VR equipped Macs whose monitors went dark after Sleeper performed an automatic shutdown. - Better compatibility with Apple's DOS Compatibility card. - More robust error handling when waking up disks from sleep mode.
