The original text was taken from Project Gutenberg and the Project Gutenberg boilerplate text is still present in this book. This is a classic work, first published in the 1920's, and was wildly popular back then, although it is almost entirely forgotten today. It resembles a work of fantasy, as it takes place in a classical China that never was, but is also a work of biting social satire. Best of all, it's funny as a stick. This made it possible for anybody to make their own schemes and change their MacOS interface completely. But, unfortunately, not all scheme designers are careful enough to make sure their schemes are bug free. To help scheme authors create schemes that had less bugs and would run more smoothly, SchemeChecker was released. SchemeChecker runs several tests on your schemes, to make sure you haven't omitted any crucial resources, or added resources that aren't used at all. Starting with version 1.4, SchemeChecker is fully compatible with the new, complex scheme format in Kaleidoscope 2.x schemes. SchemeChecker also allows schemes built for earlier versions of Kaleidoscope to contain the new Kaleidoscope 2.x resources, such as desktop patterns, window colors or cursors, as long as the resource IDs or functionality don't overlap. SchemeChecker enables you to check all the schemes in any folder (including subfolders), just one scheme or several schemes which can be selected from a list. The results can easily be exported to a TEXT file which you can open in any text editor. Recent changes to SchemeChecker ------------------------------- 1.4.1 - Sept 28, 1998 * Minor update to add support for the new resources introduced in Kaleidoscope 2.1 and MacOS 8.5. * A couple of minor bugs were fixed. 1.4 - Aug 20, 1998 * SchemeChecker now does a better job at checking schemes configured to be used only with Kaleidoscope 2.0 or later. It also allows schemes built for earlier versions of Kaleidoscope to contain the new Kaleidoscope 2.0 resources in areas where the resource IDs don't overlap. * Kaleidoscope now checks the "Minimum Kaleidoscope version" entry in the Colr ID 129 resource for errors. * You can now make SchemeChecker automatically fix any unset System Heap and Purgeable bits. * When you select a different scheme in the Result window, the dis- played information no longer reverts to the "further info" field. * The Result window uses a document window, allowing you to switch between the windows in SchemeChecker and use the menus. * A bug that prevented schemes with a comma in the name to be checked has been fixed. * The "Save results..." button in the Report window had by mistake been disabled in version 1.3. It now works again. TrueKeys is a Chinese, Japanese, Korean (CJK) 2-byte truetype font conversion utilities. What makes it different from other truetype conversion such as TTConvert 1.5 and TrueConvert 0.3b is that it generates its own cmap table for specified language encoding, and assemble the original font data into a new truetype. This strategy corrects some common PC font problems such as no Mac cmap table support, etc. When TTConvert or TrueConvert does not work for your font, you should seriously try TrueKeys. TrueKeys v3.0 is guarenteed to work with any Mac format CJK truetypes and Windows ttf format truetypes. Key Benefits Convert Chinese/Japanese/Korean truetype fonts between Windows/Macintosh format. It makes use of the dictionaries for the application program 'Verbs&Nouns'. You can use 'V&N Lookup' while you are working with other text-based applications because it searches for any word that you copy to the clipboard. Depending on which modules you have, 'V&N Lookup' can locate similar words in several languages at the same time. It can check the spelling and translate passages of text word for word. The application 'V&N Lookup' is part of my 'Foreign Language Toolkit'. To try out the program you can download not-protected dictionaries and play with them. Features include the opportunity to do inflection exercises, and translation exercises in both directions; to record and play sound for single words; and to do exercises based on sound or pictures. The program keeps a record of exercises, and identifies the words that the student has difficulty with. Along with the program, you need a module for the target language concerned. The program can also be used as an authoring tool to write your own modules of inflected words for any language. A built-in 'inflection-generator' simplifies the addition of these words. A 'Find' feature allows the modules to be used as bilingual dictionaries. Ready-made modules are already available for certain languages.
