Chas: Go into the File Sharing control panel (on OS 8 or newer) or the Sharing Setup control panel (on earlier systems - back to 7.0) and set the owner name and password there. No need to go trashing prefs. as this overwrites them. - Scott Remove the "spamless" to return eMail to me. Think simple. The filters operate as rules list. Each message is checked against the filter set. Comparison is effected from the top filter down. The first match usually handles the message and no more filtering is done for that message. To handle your hypothetical situation, there'd be six filters - one each for the five people whose mail you'd like to keep, transferring the messages to a "friends" mailbox, then one more filter which checks that the message "does not contain" xxx, where xxx was any one of the criteria used in the earlier five. Transfer to an "abuse" folder. Actually reporting (forwarding) the extraneous messages to an abuse authority can be effected by means of some scripting and stationery but if you've had problems dealing with the concept of filtering already I'd suggest reading more of the Eudora manual. First get comfortable with the Eudora framework for accomplishing what you wish. Once you're accustomed to the manual operation you can progress to automating same. Incidentally, just what are the "degrees" to which you refer? I'm not familiar with the idea of filtering "conditional statements of the 3rd or higher degree". Just wondering... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Oct 2000 09:19:53 -0500 From: Kee Hinckley To: "abrody@smart.net" Subject: (Q) 3rd and higher level filtering with Eudora? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 At 6:09 PM -0400 10/25/00, abrody@smart.net wrote: >Dear Digest readers, >Is there any way to get Eudora 4.3.2 to filter conditional statements >of the 3rd or higher degree? The easiest way to deal with this sort of thing (especially if you get large quantities of legitimate email) is to use a filter to match everything you want and move it out of the way. Then the final filter matches everything (e.g. "Subject does not contain !@$!@#!!!!SADDDD") and files it into a spam mailbox. The result is an empty inbox, and a bunch of subject-specific mailboxes with the mail you want, and one mailbox with things that are potentially spam. I get over 200 messages a day, and that's how I manage to speed up dealing with the 8 or so pieces of spam I get every day. I would not recommend auto forwarding anything to abuse--if for no other reason than the fact that from lines on spam nearly always lie, you have to examine the received headers to truly determine where they come from. (I have a site almost completed, http://www.spamwatcher.com/, which will do this for you.) There is something you can do though, to make the filtering a little easier. If you have a whole bunch of email addresses you want to treat in the same manner, create an alias that contains all of them, and then in the filter use the "intersects nickname" rule. Any address that is in the alias/nickname will match. - -- Kee Hinckley - Somewhere.Com, LLC - Cyberspace Architects I'm not sure which upsets me more: that people are so unwilling to accept responsibility for their own actions, or that they are so eager to regulate everyone else's. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 6.5.2 for non-commercial use iQA/AwUBOf7VgSZsPfdw+r2CEQI4KACgzdLXyRetH0jZUa4yZupXhu3N0TIAoMq7 9Z8DO/63ituQhFyhcXkqxKlE =noWt -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ------------------------------ Date: 31 Oct 2000 From: Angela Brett To: Subject: [*] Once in a Lifetime 2.0 Once in a Lifetime is a simple (but addictive) one-player card game for HyperCard. It has a high-score list, statistics, and full 'balloon help'-style help, including an 'Autoplay' option which lets the computer play the game by itself. It should work on any Mac with HyperCard 2.1 or later and a 640x400 or larger screen. * The cards are larger, with proper picture cards which have pictures of real and fictional people on them - anyone from Princess Diana (Queen of Hearts) to Fred Flintstone (King of Clubs.) There are also Apple cards instead of Spades - I'd rather have Steve Wozniak in my picture cards than some gardeners. * Jokers have been added, which can do some pretty naughty things like steal cards and change your score. * I've fixed a problem in resetting the high scores, so that you don't have to save them as a text file before resetting them. * This version includes statistics on how many games you've played, average score, how many (and the percentage of) games you've won, and a rating which reflects your scoring, wins, and number of games played. * You can now import highscores from OIAL highscore files saved using this or earlier versions of Once in a Lifetime. * More new sounds [Archived as /info-mac/game/crd/once-in-a-lifetime-20.hqx; 371 K] ------------------------------ Date: 31 Oct 2000 From: James Thomson To: Subject: [*] PCalc 2.1 PCalc 2.1 is a new version of my veteran calculator application from 1992. It's a fully featured scientific calculator with support for hexadecimal and binary calculations, that works on Mac OS 8 and later, including Mac OS X. Version 2.1 has the following enhancements: * Significant speed increases over 2.0, especially on older machines. * Added tape window showing calculation history, for registered users. * Added information window showing register contents. * Added cube and cube root buttons. * Added round and percentage buttons. * Added more bit shifting buttons in binary and hex mode. * Option to auto-minimise the calculators in the background. * All binary operations now work in hex mode. * Many new functions and constants, courtesy of Roland B. Wassenberg. * Fixed a number of drawing bugs under Aqua on OS X. This release of PCalc is shareware, that means you can download it and try it out for free, but if you like it and continue to use it you should pay the US $10 registration fee. PopChar Pro is the highly acclaimed control panel by Guenther Blaschek. It extends your menu bar with a menu that shows all characters available in the current font. Select a character from that menu to "type" it into the currently edited text. New in version 1.3: New feature: * PopChar Pro can now insert HTML codes for selected characters. (See chapter 7 in the User's Guide for details.) Problems fixed: * Fixed a bug where PopChar Pro sometimes crippled the hierarchical menus in the Apple menu. * Conflict Catcher still complained in version 1.2 that PopChar Pro required too much memory. This should be fixed now. PopChar Pro is distributed by UNI SOFTWARE PLUS. This submission contains the PopChar Pro Installer that will ask for a license key.
