Features include the opportunity to do various inflection exercises, and translation exercises in both directions; to record and play sound for single words; to do exercises based on sound or pictures; and to play various word-games. The program keeps a record of exercises, and identifies the words that the student has difficulty with. Along with the program, you need a module for the target language concerned. The program can also be used as an authoring tool to write your own modules of inflected words for any language. A built-in 'inflection-generator' simplifies the addition of these words. A 'Find' feature allows the modules to be used as bilingual dictionaries. Ready-made modules are already available for certain languages. You can visit: to get more information. Jacek Iwanski. When you get a cartridge from which the naked disk is removable, discarding the protective shell turns it into a DVD-ROM which is write-protected in any drive. Careful shopping for recent combination drives will get you other DVD and/or CD capabilities, in the same drive. DVD-RAMs mount on your desktop like a removable hard disk cartridge, they just write slower. In a backup function, they exceed the speed of most backup tapes, yet suffer from none of the vagaries of either tape or of magnetic media, having predicted lifespans in excess of 30 years. -- ¨2001 Angela Kahealani, All Rights Reserved Without Prejudice, UCC 1-207. I upgraded my classic OS to 9.2.1, then upgraded OS X to 10.1. I tried installing 10.1.1 but couldn't - and remembered there was an updated installer which is required for "future system updates". So I downloaded the updated installer - but I can't install it. I start the installer, enter the administrator password, agree to the licence ... and then all partitions are greyed out. I can't select any (and yes, there is enough space - about 1.5 GB free on my MacOS X partition). Anyone has any thoughts on this? Silverstein" To: Info-mac Subject: HP Scanjet 5470 crashes Mac I purchased a HP Scanjet 5470 scanner and installed all the relevant software on my Titanium G4 Powerbook running System 9.1. I unlocked the scanner and plugged it in. The scanner made a slight grinding noise (the kind it is described as making when it is locked - but it is definitely unlocked - there is no way to plug it in without unlocking it). It continues to make this sound every time I plug it in. I plugged in the USB. The Apple system profiler can see the scanner. When I launch the control panel it can only see SCSI and when I try and change it USB, the control panel crashes. I suspected an extension conflict. I created an extension set that tried to eliminate conflicts ('Mac OS 9.1 All' plus the HP extensions 'GearPPCS', 'GearPPCS.LIB', 'HP Scanjet 5470c USB ext', 'HP Scanjet 54xx Library', 'HP Scanjet Manager' and the control panel 'HP Scanjet controls' - I may have left something out, who knows). This time the control panel worked, identified the scanner, but I still crashed. At one point I received an 'Error #2' message. The HP Scanjet Manager seemed to hang the system for a long time. None of the buttons on the front of the scanner seem to do anything. When I launch the HP scanning software my computer crashes. Has anyone got this scanner up and running? Should I just give up on something that did not work straight out of the box and opt for an Epson Perfection 1650 instead?
