I have this notion that in the era before iMac and USB I used to see ads for optical ADB mice for the Mac. Anyone verify this? Testify as to their quality? Any of them still being produced? -- Allan Hunter ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Aug 2002 09:27:27 -0700 (PDT) From: David Hirschberg To: digest@info-mac.org Subject: OSX permissions problem I want to admit first that I caused this problem. I was playing around with permissions when I shouldn't have been. I have a G3/600 with a 110gb drive (in two partitions) and 512MB memory running the latest OSX that is up to date. I had a deleted user that I could not remove files from so I decided to use get info to change the permissions. I set everything to '777' and it worked I was able to delete the files. I should have stopped there. So I would not have any other conflicts I dragged both partiions over get info and set every thing to '777'. Now I have problems. I can not mount image files on my desktop and I can not run itunes3. I am sure there are other problems that I have not found. On is that I can not install updates that dload from the updater. I tried running apple's utility to set the permissions back to the default for the system and it says permission denied in the logs for a lot of files. It does not fix the problem. Can someone explain what I did and suggest how to fix it? I am willing to drop into terminal mode if I have to. Unless someone has a fix my only option is to wait for OSX.2 and hope there is an install option that does not involve reformatting.
